Monday Bloody Monday: ‘Band Saw Head Split’ From ‘Intruder’ (1989)

Do you like 80’s slasher movies?  Do you like lots of gore and creative death scenes in your slasher movies?  Well have I got the movie for you then!  Ok – enough of my special infomercial voice, let’s talk about heads getting cut in half by band saws.  That was an awkward transition.

Welcome to Monday Bloody Monday and this week I am showcasing a little slasher movie with some big names attached.  Ever heard of Bruce Campbell?  Sam Raimi?  Good, then you get a cookie.  In 1989, Raimi’s friend Scott Spiegel directed and wrote Intruder – a slasher about a maniac killing people in a supermarket.  The potatoes weren’t the only thing that was half-off that day.  Case in point, this guy’s head in the clip below that happened to meet an angry band saw.  Still one of the best death scenes ever in my opinion.  Enjoy!

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Boxing Decapitation’ From ‘Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan’ (1989)

I’m sure when you were watching the big Mayweather/Pacquiao fight last night, you were rooting for one of them to literally punch the other’s head off.  A bit sadistic, yes – but wouldn’t it have made it more exciting and entertaining?  But alas, that only happens in movies.  More specifically, in Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday – and since everyone has been in a big boxing mood lately, I figured I’d return to one of the best on-screen deaths (in one of the worst sequels in the franchise) at the hands of Jason Voorhees.  Yes, young boxing prodigy Julius is about to find out why you don’t spar with the big guy in the hockey mask.  Take it away, Jason!

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Death By Frisbee’ From ‘Phantasm III – Lord Of The Dead’ (1994)

In my honest opinion, if you’re a looter douchebag with greasy hair that wears a tight t-shirt and gold chains with big dollar signs on them, you deserve to get your throat slit by a frisbee.  I should problem explain that sentence a little more in depth.

On this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday, it’s time to enter the lovely world of Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm.  More specifically, Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead, an above-average sequel that if anything is as enjoyable as it is ridiculous.  Case in point:  A wannabe thug gets his throat slit when a kid throws a frisbee at him after he breaks into the kid’s house with his wardrobe-challenged crew.  Don’t believe me?  Then feast your eyes on the clip below and prepare to see your first death by frisbee.

Monday Bloody Monday: ‘Acid To The Face’ From ‘Cube’ (1997)

Step right up ladies and gentlemen and watch the great escape artist Rennes, as he attempts to get out of the mysterious Cube!

Dammit.  Rennes didn’t escape much there.  He should probably work on his escaping skills, especially after giving such a hopeful speech to the crew before hopping into that section of the Cube that disintegrated his face.  Not very inspirational for the rest of the crew either I’d have to say, since Rennes was supposed to be one of the best.  And now his head looks like it was taken out by a melon baller.  Oh well.  To find out if the rest of the crew makes it, check out 1997’s Cube if you haven’t seen it already.  It’s a nice little indie horror/sci-fi flick that has a few surprises up it’s sleeve.

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Crotch Kill’ From ‘The Mutilator’ (1985)

Sometimes, a horror movie can be so amazing….so groundbreaking….so instrumental in shaping the course of mankind….that it will leave you in awe after witnessing it.  The Mutilator unfortunately is not one of those horror movies.  But it has a ‘death by hook to the female crotch’ kill, so it ain’t all bad!

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday where I’m shining a little light on a slasher flick from 1985 that isn’t that well known, but is loved by those who have seen it.  As much as you can love a bad horror movie I guess.  The Mutilator isn’t good – but it did have a kick ass movie poster (look it up if you haven’t seen it), a killer tagline (By sword, by pick, by ax, bye bye…), a not-so killer theme song, and the aforementioned ‘death by hook to the female crotch’ death scene.  Click below if you’re curious, and if you’re feeling really adventurous – then click on the second link that contains the opening credits and theme song:

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Death By Umbrella’ From ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2’ (1987)

Sometimes I think about what the worst, but entertaining, way to die would be.  Choking on a delicious taco from Taco Bell?  Being impaled by an umbrella while rain falls on top of my dead body in an ironic manner?  Yeah, that last one would probably be it.

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday and a Happy Holiday to you all!  Let’s all get into the Christmas spirit with a scene from a terrible 1987 Christmas-themed horror movie called Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2.  Yes, this movie is infamous just for it’s ‘Garbage Day’ scene alone – but let’s not forget about the scene where Ricky (Billy’s brother from the original 1984 movie) decides to get creative with an umbrella to dispose of someone who’s been “naughty”.  Bonus points for Ricky’s crazy eyes and for the ironic rain falling at the end of the death, which miraculously only seems to really be falling on the murder spot.  That’s some Hollywood magic right there.

Heads Up: ‘Bookcase Death’ From ‘High Tension’ (2003)

Who loves a good horror movie decapitation?  I know…….we all do!  And because of that unified love for noggin knockers, I’m going to start doing a recurring feature called ‘Heads Up‘.  It’s a play on words.

The first poor bastard to be put under the beheading spotlight is Alex’s father from the 2003 French horror slasher, High Tension.  Now, I kind of feel bad for this guy.  He was just trying to get some sleep and somebody has to go ringing his damn door buzzer.  Gotta give our killer some originality points though for being aware of his surroundings and for being fond of wood.  I’m pretty sure it’s a first as far as ‘death by bookcases’ go.  Is it silly?  Yes.  Is it awesome?  Of course.  So click below and join in on the severed head festivities with me!

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Death By Gymnastics’ From ‘Final Destination 5’ (2011)

A good dismount is key when you’re doing gymnastics.  The slightest mishap could cost you major points and could also cost you your life!!! (cue scary loud horror stinger)

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday where the focus will be on gymnastics.  My apologies to Mary Lou Retton, because I’m not going to be talking about you.  What I will be talking about is the twisted little scene from 2011’s, Final Destination 5 where Candice (Ellen Wroe) is hard at work on the gymnastics bars trying to perfect her technique for the big upcoming competition.  Unfortunately, she fails miserably thanks in large part to some chalk powder and a little thing called fate.

Sunday Bloody Sunday: ‘Death By Toy Soldiers’ From ‘Dolls’ (1987)

If you’ve ever had a fear of being killed by a bunch of little toy soldiers, I would leave the post now.  Ok – you’ve been warned.  And the reason I’m warning you is because on this week’s Sunday Bloody Sunday, I’m highlighting a death scene that involves psychotic little toy soldiers from Stuart Gordon’s 1987 amazing little horror film, Dolls.

Not much needs to be set up for this clip, other than knowing that a punk rock girl goes snooping around where she shouldn’t, and finds her eyeless friend (an iconic image that was incorporated on the original VHS cover) and a bunch of creepy-ass dolls.  After she destroys a good majority of them, revealing their little skull faces under the porcelain – she encounters the toy soldiers.  Don’t let their drum taps and harmless bugle fool you…..they’re pissed off.

Ok…..So This New ‘The Town The Dreaded Sundown’ Trailer Is A Nice Surprise

Ok – here we go again with one of those impressive movie trailers that will either allow the film to live up to the hype or drown in it’s own mediocre bullshit.  I must say that I’m impressed by this one, so let’s get right to it and check out the trailer for The Town That Dreaded Sundown:

Think of this as a sequel/reboot to the 1976 movie of the same name.  I’ve always loved the whole ‘sack head killer’ angle (My favorite Friday The 13th sequel is probably Part 2), so it immediately gets points for that.  And I’ve been fiending for a good slasher film because I’m bored with all of the paranormal/demonic stuff.  Sometimes you just need some good ole fashioned slashin’!

And if you’re a fan of American Horror Story I’ve got good news for you because one of their directors, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, directed this movie.  That’s another aspect I love from the trailer – just the overall look of it.  Bonus points for not looking cheap.  Look out for The Town That Dreaded Sundown to hit select theaters and VOD in October (just in time for Halloween!) and we can all only hope that the trombone will make another appearance in this one.  Yeah – he kills her with a trombone.  That really happened.
