I always felt like Rawhead Rex should have had his own theme song.  Perhaps a bouncy jingle that mentions how he enjoys baptizing priests with his urine, or maybe it could focus on what a misunderstood nice guy he is!  Case in point – this emotional scene where he realizes that killing a pregnant woman does more harm than good.  Get your tissues ready……

What a sensitive murderous demon.  You could tell that he just wanted to rip that fetus right out and perform some kind of amazing juggling act with it, but he didn’t.  His emotions took over and Rawhead Rex realized that he does indeed have a line that he won’t cross.  It was moving.  It was tear-jerking.  And it almost made you forget that he pissed all over that priest.  Almost.

Not many things could upstage a scene in a horror movie where a demonic creature pisses on a priest and “baptizes” him.  But a sweet mullet haircut sure as hell could.

Rawhead Rex is a 1986 hilariously ‘bad but good’ horror movie that was conceived by the master mind of Clive Barker.  I’m not going to get too much into the storyline that revolves around an evil pagan god with big ass teeth tearing some shit up in a little Irish town.  I’m talking about hair here!  And my oh my does Rawhead Rex have a sweet set of locks on that big cranium of his.  The hair definitely has a Gene Simmons kind of texture to it, but if anything – that makes it even more amazing.  So because of that alone, it’s no surprise to proclaim that Rawhead Rex and his hair was indeed a Great Moment In Horror Hair History!

Ummmmmm: Rawhead Rex (1986)

Sometimes you’re watching a horror movie and something happens where you just kind of pause and say “ummmmm…..”.  That’s the best way to describe it when I was about 11 years old and my Dad brought home the Clive Barker helmed, Rawhead Rex.  It’s your standard ‘demon resurrected to bring hell on earth’ type story with a guy running around in a pretty bad costume and makeup taking out the townsfolk left and right.  Oh, and he also stops by the occasional priest to piss on him for a baptism ritual too……

Ummmmmmm……yep – he just pissed on that priest.  And the priest liked it.  And what a stream on that Rawhead Rex, huh?  Impressive.  I remember arguing with someone later in life that this scene actually did occur.  Now thanks to the wonders of Youtube, it’s proven!  Rawhead Rex has some decent gore and I do highly recommend reading the original story by Clive Barker to get a better sense of what they were going for here with this ho-hum of a horror movie.  This is one film that would definitely benefit from a remake by the way.  Unfortunately, this cult classic is not available on DVD, unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount, but we can only hope that one day soon we’ll be able to view this wonderful pissing display in high definition Blu-Ray!  So here’s to you Rawhead Rex, and your monumental piss…….
