Anticipation Alert: Cooties (2014)

Being that the mainstream horror outlook looks pretty grim this year, we’ll have to rely on our Independent film friends to fulfill our horror needs.  And what better way to start things off than with one of the best posters I’ve seen in a long time:

Yes, it’s Cooties!  A horror-comedy coming to the Sundance Film Festival and hopefully to a theater near you soon.  Leigh Whannell (Saw, Insidious) wrote this one and stars in it alongside Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Jack McBrayer, and Alison Pill.  Here’s a brief synopsis below:

A mysterious virus hits a small Illinois town, affecting only the prepubescent population, transforming them into violent, feral little monsters. The virus centralizes in the town’s elementary school, and quickly the infected students have the teaching staff under siege, acting out deadly revenge fantasies with an eerie sense of childlike glee. Finally, the teachers band together, led by a hapless substitute who grew up in the town, realizing they must do the unthinkable if they hope to survive.

Murderous kids and teachers doing the unthinkable to survive?  I’m in!  Just the name Cooties alone pretty much sold me.  It actually reminds of when I was a kid and played the game by the same name.  A little odd now that I think about it, considering the point of the game was to construct your own Cootie. Doesn’t seem too kid-friendly.  Can you imagine if those Cooties from the game came alive and wreaked havoc on everyone???  They look like they would move pretty slow so you could most likely easily get away, but it would still be terrifying nonetheless. Anyway, I went off topic again which seems to happen often.  Stay tuned for more info on the Cooties movie and be on the lookout for a trailer coming soon!
