Give Me The Creeps: The Giant Man In ‘It Follows’

Is there anything creepier than a 7’7″ giant man slowly stalking you while walking through a doorway that clearly isn’t built for his height?  Ok, maybe you can think of some creepier things – but for me, one of the horror movie scenes that genuinely gives me the creeps every time I see it is when the giant man makes his appearance in the 2014 film It Follows.

Before I get into the clip, I just want to say that I feel that It Follows is one of the best horror films in the last 10 years.  I realize it’s one of those movies that divides the horror audience – but for me it had more than a few true creepy moments, a great soundtrack/score, fairly original storyline, and this giant guy I’m about to show you.  The music cue that accompanies his entrance deserves it’s own praise btw.

Huge (pun intended) props to actor Mike Lanier for bringing the full-on creepiness, without having to try that hard, with that grandiose entrance.  Sadly, he passed away a few months ago – but his memory will live on through this scene alone.  So – thank you, Mike Lanier and It Follows for effectively giving me the creeps!  Now don’t even get me started on the pissing naked woman in the kitchen.  Shudder……

Dirty Horror’s Best And Worst Of 2015!

Should old acquaintances be forgotten, and never brought to mind?  Oh who cares, it’s time to talk the best and worst horror movies of 2015!  Small disclaimer before we get started:  There were some movies I didn’t get a chance to see, but they are on my ‘To Do’ list.  So pardon me if some of your best and worst are not on my lists.  Now let’s kick it off with best and save the worst for last!   Continue reading

Review: It Follows (2015)

Do you ever get the feeling that someone is following you?  Maybe an old lady who shuffles aimlessly towards you at a snail’s pace?  A normal looking guy with an Abercrombie & Fitch shirt on?  Or maybe a naked lady with no front teeth who pees uncontrollably on the floor as she gets closer?  That last one may seem a bit specific, but not if you’ve seen the new buzzworthy independent horror film, It Follows.    Continue reading

Anticipation Alert: We Are Still Here (2015)

2015 is looking like it might be shaping up as a good year for horror movies.  I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m pretty optimistic.  I’m waiting on pins and needles for It Follows to come out next month, and this teaser for We Are Still Here just got me tingling.

Barbara Crampton?  Lisa Marie?  Weird demon looking things?  I’m there!  I love the teaser because it leaves a lot to the imagination and unless you look up the premise (revolving around a creepy house that awakens every 30 years demanding a sacrifice), you wouldn’t really know what the movie is about.  And I love that.  I noticed the other week some early word leaked online about We Are Still Here, and the early word is good.  Apparently the practical effects, that director Ted Geoghegan is known for from his previous films, are a stand-out and it’s supposedly a genuinely scary horror flick.  No official word on a release date yet, but it will premiere at SXSW in March.

Anticipation Alert: It Follows (2015)

2014 for the most part was pretty uneventful as far as horror movies go in my opinion.  Yes, there were some winners with a lot of stinkers mixed in, but 2015 is looking like it will get off on the right foot with the spooky independent flick, It Follows.

Not digging the poster too much, but what I am digging is the buzz that’s going around associated with It Follows.  Of course I’m always a bit skeptical when a horror movie is being toted as “The scariest movie in years…..“, but I’m a sucker for that kind of hype.  I keep hearing that the soundtrack is amazing too, and I’m always a sucker for an amazing soundtrack.

I’ve tried to steer clear of any spoilers or even of details involving the plotline. This sounds like a movie that you need to go into fresh, and all I really know about the premise is that it involves sex and weird encounters after the sex. Luckily for everyone with anticipation like me, there was a new teaser trailer released this week to give you blue balls before It Follows gets it’s US release in 2015.  Watch it and get excited.  But not too excited, because then you might be let down if it ends up not being “The scariest movie in years…..
