Why ‘Tony The Pimp’ Is One Of The Greatest Characters In Horror Movie History!

Most horror movie characters come and go.  Literally.  Because most of them die.  But one horror movie character stands the test of time.  A character so phenomenal…..so monumental…..so great in his white suit as he fights demons and tells people to “Smash everything! Smash everything!” that he deserves all of this praise and more.  Feast your eyes and ears on the man….the myth…..Tony The Pimp from 1985’s Demons!

First off, much praise to whoever put that compilation up on Youtube.  Second, Tony The Pimp is played by actor Bobby Rhodes – so he obviously deserves most of the credit here.  And thirdly, how can sideburns be so devastating?  Tony The Pimp’s sideburns are no ordinary sideburns, that’s why.  He’s pretty much the black Chuck Norris.  Whether he’s kicking in a door because there’s no need for anything else or schooling a group of people on what an ‘Instrument Of Evil‘ is – Tony The Pimp lights up the screen and not just because he’s wearing that white suit.

The dubbing is a fantastic touch as well.  So get up out of your seats…..wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care…..and if you got on clean underwear, make some noise and show your love for Tony The Pimp!  And go watch Demons again because it’s an amazing movie.

Ebay Find Of The Week: ‘Demons’ Replica Mask (1985)

Easily one of my favorite horror movies of all time is Lamberto Bava’s 1985 Italian splatter classic, Demons.  A ridiculous but hugely entertaining mess of a movie that turns into full-on demon carnage after a prostitute named Rosemary (Geretta Geretta) puts on a prop mask at a movie theater.  And now thanks to the glorious Ebay gods, someone has replicated that very mask for you to own.

Not too shabby.  Just don’t put the mask on if you buy it or else there’s a 50/50 chance that you’ll turn into a demon.  And you’re teeth will get all messed up, and you don’t want that.  But yes, up on Ebay right now, you can bid on one of these replica masks that comes with a mini framed poster (you get to choose from 3) and also a replica of the Metropol movie ticket from the movie as well. If you’re tempted to bid, it starts at $99.95 (plus $45 shipping) which honestly isn’t bad at all for this particular piece in my opinion.  You can go HERE if you want to check out more about it and maybe you’ll end up with the coolest Halloween mask in the process.  Now in the spirit of Demons, let’s end this post with some words of wisdom from Tony The Pimp:

Horror Hijinx: ‘Sally’s Demon Transformation’ From ‘Demons 2’ (1986)

Who needs a college football championship game when you have the amazingly bad Demons 2?  Yes, last night I revisited the sequel to one of my all-time favorite horror movies ever, 1985’s Demons.  Oh sure, Demons is not Academy Award level cinema by any means – but it’s fun, gory as hell, and has a great soundtrack.  And it has Bobby Rhodes.  I hadn’t watched Demons 2 in a long time, so imagine my pleasant surprise that I was inspired enough the morning after to write this post.

Hilarious bad dubbing aside (as with most Italian horror movies), Demons 2 has an arsenal of ‘so bad it’s good’ moments.  And thankfully after watching this movie again, I now have an arsenal of content for my site in the near future.  It’s clear from the get-go, that Demons 2 is the red-headed stepchild of Demons.  And it’s ok with that, which makes it even better.  Oh I’ll talk about the dog transformation scene, the baby demon scene, and even the reemergence of actor Bobby Rhodes as a gym instructor at a later date – but today it’s all about Sally’s demon transformation scene:

Oh lord.  Now you know you can’t help but laugh when that prop head of Sally pops up.  This sequel pretty much tries to follow Demons beat for beat, as Sally’s transformation (especially the teeth part) mimics Carmen’s from the original almost to a tee.  The effects are definitely cheaper this time around, but it works because the movie itself is, well…..cheap.  God bless the 80’s though, because it was acceptable to be and look cheap back then, especially in horror movies.  Therein lies the charm, my friends.  And Demons 2 is full of it.  Charm that is.

And The Award For ‘Best Katana Sword Demon Slaying On A Motorcyle Ever’ Goes To………..

To be fair, I think that’s been the only ‘katana sword demon slaying on a motorcycle scene’ ever in a movie.  But yes, that gem of a clip is from Lamberto Bava’s 1985 classic gorefest – Demons.  I don’t even know where to begin with the awesomeness in this one.  We could start with the fact that George has some serious motorbike skills and effortlessly rides along top of the movie theater seats, which somewhat defies physics.  Then we can get into the impressive sword mastery that he puts forth, all while maintaining his balance and speed on the bike.  Add in the metal track ‘Fast As A Shark‘ from Accept, and you can’t help but grin from ear to ear at everything involved here.  As a matter of fact, let’s watch it again!
