Ho-Ho-Holy Shit! The ‘Krampus’ Trailer Has Arrived!

I have to admit that I’ve become a bit obsessed and fascinated by the folklore involving Krampus, the horned and hoofed creature that would come around at Christmastime to torment bad little girls and boys.  Had I known about it as a child, I probably would have behaved much better considering the alternative if Krampus ever found me.  No child wants to be stuffed into a burlap sack and dragged away to a cave to be eaten.  And now finally, we will get a proper movie version of the story, thanks to writer/director Michael Dougherty, appropriately titled Krampus.

Well that looks like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?!?  For those living under a rock for the last 8 years, Michael Dougherty wrote and directed the AMAZING Halloween anthology movie, Trick ‘r Treat.  And if you’ve seen that (and shame on you if you haven’t), then you can see his stamp all over the Krampus trailer stylistically and with the tongue-in-cheek humor.

We haven’t had a really good Christmas horror movie in a while (Rare Exports was good, but more fantasy than horror in my opinion), so Krampus will be welcomed with open arms when it’s released in December.  Hopefully it will live up to the hype of the trailer and of the poster below, which somehow reminds me of another Christmastime horror movie called Elves.  Let’s just all hope that the comparisons stop at the poster for that one.  Look for Krampus in what will most likely be a small theater run (although I’m hoping for a bigger one) on December 4th!

Ebay Find Of The Week: ‘Trick ‘R Treat’ Lollipop Props

It’s the middle of April and I’m already posting about Halloween.  There’s nothing wrong with this statement, because it’s never to early to talk about Halloween!  And when I think of this beloved holiday, I think about Trick ‘R Treat, the amazing anthology horror movie given to us in 2007 by writer/director Michael Dougherty.  So who wouldn’t want to own some homemade replica lollipops that Sam carried around in the movie and sometimes murdered people with?

Be careful if you’re thinking that those look delicious, because you can’t eat them.  Unfortunately, they’re not edible unless you have a taste for sculpted resin.  They’re pretty dead on to the real thing from the movie though, which makes them a must have for any real Trick ‘R Treat fan.  Only problem is that they’re going to cost you $75.  I may have just lost a few of you on that price tag, but if you’ve got some deep pockets then head on over to the listing HERE and grab them while you can.  Me personally, I would do it for $50, so maybe the seller will drop the price eventually.  Oh btw – Halloween is only 203 days away!

Anticipation Alert: Krampus (2015)

Tis the season for news about Christmas horror movies!  And while I’ve heard about this one for a while now, it’s finally picking up steam with some casting choices.  I’m talking about Michael Dougherty’s demonic horror/comedy, Krampus.  

For those in the dark, Michael Dougherty gave us the amazing (and horribly studio managed) Halloween anthology, Trick ‘R Treat back in 2007.  So because of his name alone, I’m already on board with Krampus.  The film will revolve around the Alpine country folklore about a demon who would reward good children with gifts and the bad children would get tossed in his sack and taken back to his lair for punishment.  Sounds a bit wrong if you ask me and would have scared the shit out of me as a kid had my parents told me that story, but the pics you can find about Krampus online are even more disturbing.

Sweet Mother of God!  What the hell is going on there?  I was under the assumption that Krampus would just kidnap these kids for a little while, take them back to his untidy lair, and maybe make them eat broccoli or something as punishment for being bad.  Apparently I was way off.  At least the girl in the pic is enjoying some delicious fruit while the boy is either about to have his ass licked or worse.

Michael Dougherty sounds like he’s definitely going to go the horror/comedy route with this, so expect a tone similar to Trick ‘R Treat.  Not a bad thing by any means, but what is kind of bad is that director/writer Kevin Smith is also doing a horror/comedy about Krampus and his will be called Anti-Claus.  The more the merrier I guess, so get ready for the battle of the Krampus movies in 2015!  Now let’s see another one of those uncomfortable Krampus pics where he’s licking a boy’s head while pulling his ears apart.
