Have You Heard About This ‘IT’ Teaser Trailer?

Alright, clearly I was being sarcastic in the title of the post because the new teaser trailer for the upcoming remake/reboot of Stephen King’s IT was unleashed this week.  And judging from the response, people like it!  They really, really like it!  If you haven’t seen it, you should be ashamed – so here’s your chance right now:

Well, let’s talk about the big circus elephant in the room.  What can we expect Bill Skarsgard to deliver as far as Pennywise is concerned, and can he fill Tim Curry’s big clown shoes?  Since this is a teaser trailer, we get glimpses of him – but don’t get to hear the voice or really see any of his personality (which will be key).  He does seem to have some endurance and speed though, as evident from the final shot of Pennywise speeding through the water in the sewer.

My overall reaction to the new IT teaser trailer was pretty positive and it definitely left me wanting more.  ‘The Loser’s Club’ all look like they were cast well, and the visuals from director Andres Muschietti are striking – a much needed improvement over the 1990 TV Mini-Series.  Set to be released in two parts, the first half of IT will be in theaters on September 8th.  I’m anticipating a pretty big box office take considering the online reaction to the teaser trailer, so the hype train is definitely rolling fast down the tracks.  I myself, am finally tackling the original Stephen King novel (all 1138 pages) so that I can compare and critique everything revolving around the book, the TV Mini-Series, and the new version. Until then, let’s all have a slice of this delicious Pennywise cake and await September 8th!

Anticipation Alert: The Void (2017)

Let me kick this post off by saying that I’m pretty impressed with the crop of horror movies so far in 2017.  This week, Raw comes out (not a remake of the Eddie Murphy standup) and that’s been my most anticipated for a while now.  But…….and this is a BIG but.  The Void is gaining steam and is right on Raw’s tail.  What is The Void, you ask?  Well peep the new trailer and we’ll talk a little more afterwards:

I guess it’s pretty evident from the content in the trailer and some of the comments from reviews that were popping up throughout, that this is a throwback to the heyday of 80’s horror.  Written and directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski, The Void seems to channel most of it’s energy and influence from John Carpenter (dig those practical effects towards the end of the trailer).  And there is clearly nothing wrong with Mr. Carpenter being an influence.  So far, the reviews are positive and the buzz is growing.  If you want to hop on the hype train, then just know that The Void will hit limited theaters (and possibly VOD) on April 7th.  Learn it.  Know it.  Live it.

Whaaaat? George Romero Did A ‘Night Of The Living Steelers’ Mini-Doc For The NFL Network??

So, upon watching my usual Thursday Night Football game on the NFL Network last night I was a bit startled (in a good way) to see a promo for this:

Well, talk about an early Halloween treat!  It looks as though George Romero did a mini-documentary for The Timeline series on the NFL Network called ‘Night Of The Living Steelers’.  And it looks to show the connection and correlation between Night Of The Living Dead and the Pittsburgh Steelers around the time the film was made and released.  Just seeing Romero walk onto Heinz Field at a game in Pittsburgh from the trailer is enough to make me tune in.  ‘Night Of The Living Steelers’ will air on October 5th at 8PM EST on the NFL Network, so do yourself a favor along with me and check it out so you can see George waving that Terrible Towel!

Jack’s Attic Releasing New ‘Leatherface’ Bootleg Resin Figures On August 19th!

One of my favorite resin horror-themed artists is Jack’s Attic, and easily one of my favorite purchases from him was his ‘Friday The 13th‘ video vame resin figure (fully attached to a mock-up Nintendo cartridge for added effect).  And next Friday, August 19th, he will be releasing his newest figure ‘Headcheese’ in multiple variants!

CpcxQpRXYAAjqS-

I love the packaging he does for his figures.  Each one of the ‘Headcheese’ variants will be limited (some more than others) and it has been announced that there will be a glow-in-the-dark version, as well as a version dedicated to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Atari video game!  The latter I’m most excited about.  Oh – how could I forget the variant modeled after the old M.U.S.C.L.E. toys?  Bottom line – you will have many to choose from, but choose fast because they won’t be around long.  The sale date is August 19th at 12:30 EST.  Go to Jack’s Attic’s page HERE for more info.

Two Big Things Are Coming To The ‘ScareLA Convention’ In Pasadena This Weekend!

img_2469

Awwwww yeah!  ScareLA has been one of my favorite Halloween conventions for the last few years, and this year they have the one and only Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark to be the official host!  It’s all going down this weekend (August 6th & 7th) in Pasadena, California at the Pasadena Convention Center.

With Halloween only a few months away, it’s never to soon to get into the spirit (pun intended) and ScareLA has got the goods to help you out.  Tons of on-location vendors, artists, and even some special celebrity guests (in addition to Ms. Elvira) will be on hand to make sure you keep a smile on your Halloween-loving face.  And speaking again of Elvira, if you would like the once in a lifetime chance to meet the icon, you have to pre-pay for your photo/autograph chance HERE and you can find more info in general at the ScareLA website.  No tickets for the Elvira meet-and-greet will be sold onsite.  So, get on over to ScareLA if you’re in the Pasadena area this weekend and don’t forget to say trick or treat!

So About This New Hellraiser Movie That’s Coming……

Pinhead fans rejoice!  You’re going to get another actor other than Doug Bradley to play him in the upcoming Hellraiser: Judgment movie!  This isn’t exactly new news that Paul T. Taylor would be nailing on the pins for the upcoming sequel, but what is new is your first look at him in this teaser poster below:

Hellraiser-Judgment

Alright, let’s get the obvious out of the way.  He looks 10 X better than the Pinhead in the 2011 travesty known as Hellraiser: Revelations.  Here’s a revelation:  You sucked as Pinhead, Stephan Smith Collins.  Ok – now let’s talk about this teaser poster a little more. No Doug Bradley, but it looks as though those involved in Hellraiser: Judgment at least have gotten the look somewhat right – if you like to base things on blurry unfocused poster art that is.

I do have to say though that I hate the tagline ‘Evil Seeks Evil‘.  Of course evil seeks evil! It’s not like evil is going to seek out some rainbows and ponies.  As a whole, I’m over these weak-ass Hellraiser sequels though.  Unless you can get Clive Barker officially onboard AND get Doug Bradley back – I’m pretty much already checked out.  How they dropped the ball with the franchise is a little mind-boggling to be honest.  The possibilities were endless and we could have seen Pinhead go to the deepest, darkest places……Instead we got him in a nightclub in Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth (guilty pleasure scene though). I’m anticipating the trailer for this sequel (which is already in post-production), but my expectations are lower than low.  Btw – how great would it be if Julia returned in some way or form?

‘Days Of The Dead’ Horror Convention Coming To Los Angeles April 1-3!

One of my favorite times of the year is when horror conventions come around, and this year there’s a doozy coming to Los Angeles!  Yes – the Days Of The Dead horror convention will be making it’s return, this time on April 1-3 at the Marriott Hotel in Burbank.

If you’ve ever wanted a photo-op with Tobin Bell from the Saw series, now’s your chance! And if you’ve ever wanted to meet ‘The Gimp’ from Pulp Fiction, now’s your chance for that too!  Personally, I’m actually kind of excited to see the Cobra Kai student/teacher combo of Martin Kove & William Zabka from The Karate Kid.  Not really horror-related, but awesome nonetheless.  Check out the link right HERE for more info and tickets for Days Of The Dead ‘Los Angeles’, and stay tuned for more guest announcements as well.  Oh – follow me on my Facebook page for a chance to win passes too!

Check Out The Spook-Tastic Video For ‘Dead Or Alive (For Now)’ From Fable Cry!

I love when I come across a band that infuses horror into their sound and overall image. Such was the case when I was tipped off to to a band called Fable Cry, who describe their sound as ‘theatrical scamp rock’.  It’s a bit macabre and quirky, with the quirky part being a good thing, and their new video for ‘Dead Or Alive (For Now)‘ looks like it belongs in smack dab in the middle of a Tim Burton movie.  I dig the old school horror visuals in the video and I’m not ashamed to admit I was more than creeped out by the cello player.  Check out the video below and check out more about Fable Cry right HERE!

Anticipation Alert: Zoombies (2016)

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you were enjoying a delightful time at the zoo and a zombie virus erupted and started infecting all the animals that you were there to see?  Good thing that the infamous ‘king of independent b-movies’ production company called The Asylum has wondered that very thing too!  Feast your eyes on Zoombies!

zoombies-artwork

First of all, the title Zoombies is going to be really tough to beat for the ‘Best Horror Movie Title‘ award this year.  And that’s saying something since the year has just started.  But yes, if your dream has always been to see zombie lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) chase down and eat people, then your dream is about to become reality.  I would give you the synopsis for Zoombies, but I think you can already figure that out Sherlock.  Apparently this beautiful specimen will be making an arrival in March in 3000 theaters across the country!  Just kidding – this will be going straight to DVD or maybe even the dumpster.  Get ready for a Zoombies trailer (which will be magnificent) coming soon!
